Quote of the week donated by Mr. Auyong:

"I paid you Sam. I paid you on the bed remember?"

hahha sometimes i forget what it is like to hang out with auyong and sam. forget to mention that it was great being out with the musks again (minus josh) but it is okay.

so today is friday, the last day of the school attachment. being the evil person i am, i didnt tell the normal acad and normal tech kids about me leaving. they happily said goodbye to me today and i waved back. a couple of them came up just to say hi this morning, but haha. nope. well anyway, now that i am out of school i can post some of the hilarious things they have given me as work.

  1. he lives in an apartment in the building next to a HAMSTER.
  2. they placed the stallion in the stall next to the spinster.
  3. John comes from Texas. He is a Taxation / Taxi / Taxican.
  4. Ann is a socialist. She believes in socialising.
  5. Catholics and Protestants are all Christians right. Why they fight? Siow ah? (During social studies class)
  6. Cher who is your boyfriend? (my answer: Qin Shi Huang and Chandragupta II who are also going to be your bfs in time.)

adorable but crazy kids. seriously craazy...

but now as craaazy as the COW sitting next to me now. GUESS WHAT COW DID!!! he took MY black marker and dotted me. now my legs look as if they have multiple moles on them. black ones and he is going to draw again cause i blogged about it.

SAY HI TO COW.

miche feels restless cause it is the last day of school. NIE beckons. (man, stressed...cause my god-sister, mrs c, mrs koh and mr ngoei all won the NIE best trainee teacher award. damn what are the odds of knowing FOUR people who are your mentors and/or close to you who are top graduates of NIE?????)

curses.

Tuesday, July 17, 2007 @11:25 PM

so in the blink of an eye, an entire month has just FLEW past me and my brains just like that right in front of my eyes.

my dearest SHAM came back and flew back today. i am already missing her tons. wished that i had more time to spend with her, but then she had her other friends as well. i am glad that the one month she was here she was able to make the beautiful memories she needed to bring back to the states with her. Sunday was fun, at the request of Al, i kinda organised a farewell lunch gathering for Sham which kinda evolved into tea and dinner. hahah the last time i was out with the girl she was complaining about how in the US all the stationery are ugly and they didnt have the nice markers she loves, so i brought her stationery shopping and bought her the markers she liked. haha she also finally got the spongebob squarepants tee shirt she really wanted at HALF the price... so i guess she is happy. =D

WSDC Team Singapore 2007 went to Seoul, Korea and came back as first runners-up this year! i am so happy for Cheam and Auyong! =) hahah glad that the cards i gave them came into good use. man, last tuesday when they were debating aussie-land for the quarts i was so fidgety the whole day, could hardly keep my mind focused on the lessons i was observing or teaching. hahahah when i heard that they won the aussies, i was HIGH!!!! hahahah excitedly high! then sam's msg came in, that they made the grand finals! haah the first person i called was sheng, needed to tell someone who understood my excitment. definitely make a terrible day and two long weeks a better one! hehe. so i have come to the conclusion that the teams who had a hard time enroute to Worlds will come back with the best results! hahaha.

School - well, the best thing i like about school is being able to talk to the kids. not that they always understand me, but they are rather fun kids to talk to. i have been into the normal tech and normal acad classes the whole of the last two weeks. quite an experience but i guess being once a rebellious kid like them i knew what buttons to push and i am actually quite surprised that they actually fall for my "tricks"! haha this is the most sucky thing. my teaching subjects are lit and history which makes me kinda redundant in 70% of schools in singapore simply because these are two subjects which are not offered at O Level. So in these 70% of schools i will end up teaching lower secondary school. this is what i personally feel. (1) there really is no need to make someone study four years and get an honours degree just to teach personification, similes etc (2) if you intend to post me somewhere where my degree and training cannot be used, why then did you insist that i major in lit when i and my teachers repeatedly requested for my major to be changed to history? also, if the school i am posted to, does not need a history teacher (second teaching subject), i will be expected to teach Eng.Lang instead. here is the catch, I AM NOT TRAINED IN ENG.LANG and I WILL NOT BE TRAINED. also, if the school i am posted to does not need a lit teacher, chances are i will be teaching history and SOCIAL STUDIES (of which I am not trained either). so kudos to my strange subject combination, i have three mentors in the school and i have to observe FOUR different subject classes when everyone else has only two. (not to mention, the constant questioning by my fellow trainers about why some students just dont pay attention in class and how to deal with discipline cases, sometimes seriously, it is common sense. i really cannot understand at times how people can go into a job without finding out about the system and how to get about it.)

SYF - got off school early for two days because of SYF. the drama presentation was good, but i was really pissed off by the school that i use to work with. All my years as SYF stage manager, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has ever dare to ARGUE with me when i give instructions and i have never ever met a group of people who are so self-absorbed that they ignore every single instruction we tell them TWICE. FUCK OFF seriously fuck off. obviously had no idea who they were pissing off huh. guess who is on my speed dial number, you numbskulls. on a happier note, i really like the play "The Art of Life" the acting was strong and today the lines were delivered with accuracy and punch. totally enjoyed it. best of all props were merely five coloured boxes! haha i love schools with minimal fuss, this is the way SYF drama should go.

Hwa Chong Junior Invitationals - hahahah well i am proud and happy for the little one. for the first time, i actually witness him being so serious about something. i guess he really wanted to win the debate huh and he tried acting nonchalant. but he did great and i hope he aint too disappointed by his loss in the semis. =) had dinner with the family, second bro was funny but it was the strangest and most surreal conversation i have had over dinner ever. really, imagining talking about Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal when you are having goose and russian caviar for dinner. hahah.

So, school experience is coming to an end, i have got to write that reflection for the P on thursday night. man it is going to be a long long piece of writing and i seriously thought that writing five to six pages things were all in the past! crap.

damn i miss working in nyc. and i need my drinking and clubbing friends. liberation is much in demanded and will be much appreciated. like really, i dont buy the whole teachers must be holier than thou thing, because you will have no life if you insist on that. and i was never and am never and will never be a prim and proper person. i need alcohol and fun. summer will agree with me. hahaha.

miche is off to bed, sleep is a precious thing these days.

The grace of God is etched onto me forever, may His Wisdom and Grace grant me the courage and the strength to tide through this period of dissatisfaction. May his Truth guide and show me the destiny installed for me, that i am be made for greater things. Amen

i guess there is quite a bit of things for me to blog about. since this has been quite a happening week.

Monday
Monday was the first day of my school experience before training and classes at NIE started proper. The school isnt as bad as I have heard about it. Though, it could definitely be better, especially since i left school only at 5pm that afternoon and was so ridiculously tired that i fell asleep on the couch at home after that. But overall the experience was okay.

Communication with the kids are little trying at times, because i have to speak to them largely in Chinese before they understand what I am trying to communicate with them. Even then, it isnt really Chinese but broken Chinese. The school doesnt have English Lit at upper levels as with many neighbourhood schools so E.Lit isnt really taken very seriously in the school. The SS/ Hist people are very nice to me and I enjoy the SS/Hist lessons more than anything. In fact, I am also re-learning stuff, because the history syllabus has changed quite a bit over the years.

I accompanied one of the classes out to the museum on Thursday, a normal tech class. It was alright, some of the kids are really interested in learning but I guess they merely have much slower learning abilities or different learning skills and our education system might not be the most suitable for them. The class was hard to control that is for sure and the girls were terrors. They behave like a gang and looking at them i had a good mind to tell them that they are nowhere near what gangsters and hooligans act. i would know. haha.

I wanted to hear how the school song sounds like cause the lyrics are really cheesy, but i guess i have to say i was sorely disappointed. cause came assembly no one sang and all the time the school song played, this was running through my head. Sing ACS forever more, our ACS forever. God save the Land and Heaven bless our ACS forever.

If there is any real reflection I have to make, it will be this. As much as I would like to help the normal tech and normal academic students, being in an environment where language communication in English is next to impossible at times, I dont think I will be able to deal with it. I am already finding it hard to really communicate with people in Chinese all the time. The last time I did my mid term attachment, I had Junyi and Sylvia with me, both of whom are English speaking people. but this time round, the people whom i have with me is a chinese lang teacher and someone from my alma mater as well. Mingjun the teacher on practicum is funny, but he reminds me of someone whom i cant put my finger on for now. but i am sure i will.

Wednesday
Went to collect the graduation gown. was in a terrible mood the whole day and i really felt like murdering someone. oh well. anyway, I headed down to touch silent club in the evening for the interview with the New Paper. I wasnt being interviewed, but to be there just make sure things were okay.

Alan the team manger of the Silent Strikers did the interview and I have to say it was the most interesting interview I had been too in the whole of my life and I had seen my fair share of interviews. Alan is deaf but he is inspiring. He put himself through poly, earning a degree in landscaping design all by himself. He has a child whom is not hearing impaired and he together with his wife who is also deaf is doing a great job to take care of the kid.

The kind of determination and strength Alan displayed made me feel embarassed of myself and made me reflect on myself as a person.

Friday
Friday was a hectic and busy day. After school ended, I rushed down to HCI to watch Shao debate. I missed his last competition and I thought I better go this time round, cause he asked me a couple of times if I would like to go and watch him. So yeah, the boy did well, but there is definitely room for improvment. I am glad he won both the debates.

After that, I went down to meet Cris at HWA (Handicapped Welfare Association) to pick up the wheelchairs for Sat's event. Being the ever sweet and wonderful person he is, he took half day off work even though he just started work a week ago to run errands for the event. I am eternally grateful to him and Imad, KJ and Alex for all the help they have given me and mich over the last one month.

We headed to Khong Guan at Boon Lay to pick up the biscuits they sponsored. (THANK YOU TERENCE! another reason for me to adore you! ahah) The smell of freshly made biscuits are heavenly. I told Cris that i dont want to teach anymore but be a biscuit maker at the factory. There were boxes of biscuits lying all around the compound so i said "No one would know if we took like a few and ran away!"

but then sense took the better of us. actually it was the fact that the papers might publish the headline "MOE Scholar and SYA Winner steals biscuits from factory" that deterred us.

The training with Kim at night was wonderful. For the first time in my life, i finally got to realise how hard it is for people on wheelchair to get around.

Saturday
Cross the Line happened. One and a half months of planning was a crazy and tight framework. But thank God, because by his Grace I had mich ong to help me. She has no idea how much of a saviour she has been to me for the last two months especially with the project. Without her CTL would not have happened. Seriously. She covered for me when i couldnt make it back to the office and she answered all my emails and made all the calls for me. More importantly she really was there all the time when i needed her. for someone who is only 19, she is incredibly matured and sensible.

The rest of the gang or YSD were also great darlings. I reaffirm that I can only trust this guys! I dont know if CTL was a success but i did walk away with strong emotions and thoughts.

It was fun watching Sham with the signboards for Shine or Mel and her friends with balloons tied to their hair. or Mishy with glitter all over their face. To all the IJ girls, debaters and otherwise, Miche thanks you for your time and energy. Really cause my boss was really glad you guys were there to help attract the crowd and liven the day up. I hope you had fun.

It was great catching up with John and Driel after the event, though driel as usual was cheapskating me. haha I count my blessings to have John as my friend cause amongst the five of them he is the sanest. Sam comes second even. haha.

So yeah, today is Sunday and tmrw is Youth day. SO THERE IS NO SCHOOL. miche is happy.

miche packed her stationery and found out she has many random things. miche learns that she cant never learn enough in order to try to make the world a better place.
